Officially Hypnobeat – representatives of Prototech and Futuristic Minimalism – formed in 1983. Initial founding members were Romulus Coeurque (now James Dean Brown) and Pietro Insipido (a.k.a. Piedro Insipiedo). After PI had decided to be hardly involved any more, the group basically consisted of two members again: RC and Porn Flake (now Victor Sol).

Hypnobeat exhausted a wide range of analog electronic gear on stage – including up to six synchronized rhythm machines. Thus they invented Techno in 1984. For their recordings and live performances they have often been supported by friends/musicians/non-musicians of most different musical/artistical background. Altogether more than 20 people have joined the party – among them Pink Elln who later started Sieg ueber die Sonne (Victory Over the Sun), drummer Peter Prochir (Cassiber, Sielwolf), rhythm magician Z'EV, members of Fetus Productions from New Zealand and bestseller author Thor Kunkel. Every now and then Hypnobeat served as a solo project(ion) for RC/JDB. Each new recording revealed a character (surprisingly?) different from their predecessors, while live sets – which mostly turned out to be machine improvisations – were fundamentally featuring tracks neither having been tested nor released before.

In June 1985 Hypnobeat released the double cassette set "Huggables" (2xC90) on their own label Monochrome Tapes. Packed in a resealable tinfoil pouch with zipper-like closure, this set features 21 tracks each on "Greatest Hits of Hypnosis And Hydrophobia" and "Subgreatest Monochrome Delights". Later that year they contributed a track to the 4LP+7" box set compilation "SNX - Popular Music Of Tomorrow – An Anthology" (Hawai 006) from France, which associates 48 bands from 18 countries. The C60 tape "Specials/Spatials", on Monochrome Tapes again, followed in 1986. Furthermore Hypnobeat participated in a fair number of international cassette compilations: on Bain Total/F, Club Moral/B, Illusion Production/F, Ptôse Production Présente/F, Touch/UK and other labels.

Live performances have been presented in Frankfurt/D, Moers/D (Jazz Festival), Antwerp/B, Wiesbaden/D, Arnhem/NL, Berlin/D, among other places.

After a last rhythmical solo twitch by RC/JDB the group finally ceased to exist in 1994 – just to transform and be reborn a year later as Narcotic Syntax. As slowly as Hypnobeat had faded to inertia from 1987-94, Narcotic Syntax blossomed into a state of hyperactivity from 1995 until today.
